As serious crafter’s we know how important it is to have simple, streamlined routines in place for cleaning, cooking, washing, shopping and all those other chores we’re responsible for. After all our time is precious and we need it for crafting! Now this doesn’t mean we are sloppy or slapdash in running our households, it just means we are organised and we work smarter not harder. In coming weeks I’ll be posting routines, recipes and tips to help you clean and cook smarter, so you can spend more time crafting.
Today’s post looks at cleaning your toilet. A thorough clean of your toilet once a week is a must do for any household. You only need Miracle Spray (see this post for details), vinegar, bicarb of soda, a toothbrush and a sponge to accomplish the task.
I’m lucky enough to have a toilet seat which removes; it makes cleaning the toilet so much quicker and easier! I remove the toilet seat and place it in my laundry sink where I give it a good burst of miracle spray. I then leave it to sit while I clean the toilet.
Spray the cistern and external areas of the toilet including the seat if yours doesn’t detach, with Miracle Spray. Wipe it clean with a damp sponge, rinsing as needed. Use your old toothbrush to get into the nooks and crannies around the joins of the toilet seat.
Spray the toilet bowl, including under the rim, liberally with Miracle Spray. Generously sprinkle the bicarb of soda all around the toilet bowl then add enough vinegar to the bowl to cause frothing. Wait for a couple of minutes to give the bicarb and vinegar time to work.
With your toilet brush, give the bowl including under the rim, a good scrub. If your toilet brush is like mine, it doesn’t get into the corners of the toilet bowl or under the rim very well so I switch to my old toothbrush. Flush the toilet a couple of times to remove the cleaning products along with the dirt/grime. Wipe the top section of the toilet bowl (above the rim) with a damp sponge to remove the Miracle Spray.
I also clean the floor surrounding the toilet with Miracle Spray; in my case this means the whole floor because it’s not a big space. Spray directly onto the floor and wipe clean with a damp sponge or a mop if it’s easier.
Back to the toilet seat; I give it a vigorous clean with a damp sponge and then rinse it under the tap. I dry it off with a clean cloth before putting the seat back on the toilet.
My toilet looks sparkling clean after this routine and I know it’s probably weird but a sparkling clean toilet gives me a great sense of satisfaction.
Do you have any tips for getting a really clean toilet?
